Welcome to Kalmar!

Kalmar was once Sweden’s biggest city and the national centre of power, politics and
elegance – until Swedish history changed course. But traces of the city’s noble history still live on, lending a unique atmosphere to modern Kalmar. Cobbled streets, the city walls and the castle’s proud silhouette bear witness to the past in a modern and evolving city. Kalmar has something for everyone. The Kalmar Strait lends distinct character and atmosphere to the city. The canal encircles the city centre on the island of Kvarnholmen. Water is a ubiquitous and beautiful feature.
The Old City and Kalmar Castle are near the centre, as is The city park. Walking paths, beautiful views and inviting cafés abound. When the shops on Kvarnholmen close, Kalmar’s nightlife starts buzzing in the pubs, ,  clubs and restaurants. In summer, concerts are held in the parks and people flock to the city’s many outdoor cafés and restaurants. Kalmar is always worth a visit!
